Being shown recognition
Meet Rosanna Kramer, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at our Moorgate Fitness & Wellbeing Centre. Rosanna joined us just over 3 years ago and shares her journey and career highlights with us so far.
Tell us about the team you work in?
I work in the clinic in Nuffield Health’s Moorgate gym among physiotherapists and GP’s. I work semi – autonomously on a daily basis and work alongside other therapists in the clinic. I meet my other colleagues based in our other London branches every two of months as part of our peer day, where we have group supervision and get to socialise with one another for the day.
Why did you choose to work at Nuffield Health?
I chose to work at Nuffield Health because I wanted the opportunity of career progression. Specifically with the opportunity of being able to work with a greater number of clients and a wider variety of presentations, including health anxiety and social anxiety. I am passionate about treating a variety of different anxiety presentations, though this is something of which I had little opportunity of working with previously. I also wanted the opportunity of being able to work with individuals specifically on a 1:1 basis rather than in a group setting which is what my previous work primarily consisted of. An improved salary was also important to me as I progressed in my career as I feel this is one important way employers can show recognition of how they value and appreciate their employee’s work.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Nuffield Health?
I really enjoy the variety of clients I get to work with including the varying nature of presenting problems and differing levels of complexity in my day-to-day work. I have had the opportunity of being able to work with a range of different backgrounds over the years which has enhanced my knowledge of different cultural backgrounds.
My work with clients over the years has allowed me to strengthen my skillset of core evidence-based interventions when working with clients and in turn given me the confidence to then tailor these to the individuals I am working with who each present with their own unique experiences, beliefs, problems, and goals.
I am passionate about working with third wave interventions including acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy. I find having such flexibility of using these approaches invaluable when working with clients as it allows me to explore their problems in a lot more depth and get to the heart of problems in order to address these. This includes more entrenched beliefs that are affecting client’s behaviours and emotions and allows me to develop more specific skills that sometimes CBT alone does not always offer, to treat presenting problems.
What I value within my day-to-day work is the flexibility I get. While seeing a variety of presenting challenges among clients, which has been excellent for my self-development and of course being able to help improve the quality of someone’s life, which ultimately gives me significant purpose, satisfaction and meaning in my job, I have time to in between sessions to use the gym. For me I feel good physical and mental health is integral in any job, particularly if sitting down for long periods of time and needing focus to work to the best of my ability cognitively with clients. I get to use the gym between my working hours which has been beneficial in terms of improving my own general health on a daily basis and within developing my own goals and progress within this area of my life, alongside my work.
I also really enjoy working in the heart of London. I have the opportunity to explore and meet up with others in my day around my clients which I find is really important for social connection.
What is your career highlights/ What does my career progression look like?
Completing my EMDR training in 2023. It has given me the opportunity of working with a variety of clients presenting with different trauma or aversive experiences and has been incredibly rewarding to see life changing positive outcomes for clients from this type of work. It has helped me broaden my knowledge of trauma of which I had little experience of working with prior to joining Nuffield Health. I have also had the opportunity at the end of 2023 to go on a 2-day social anxiety workshop presented by David Clark. This was incredibly valuable for my self-development and in enhancing my theoretical knowledge of the disorder and broaden my range of skills for working with such clients, which I was able to do soon after attending the course, and to use with good effect.
How do you use your employee benefits?
I love the opportunity of getting to use the gym in Moorgate and other Nuffield Health gyms around me for free as a staff employee. I was able to get my brother a reduced gym membership too on Nuffield’s family and friends’ scheme which he has benefited from. I also have a long-term personal trainer I have been working with where I get sessions at a reduced rate of almost up to 50%. as an employee benefit. I have a really good relationship with my personal trainer which adds to my job satisfaction when I come into work.
