Improving patient outcomes
Meet Ben Claxton, Physiotherapy Manager at Guildford & Woking Hospitals and Guildford Fitness and Wellbeing Centre. Initially joining Nuffield Health over a decade ago, Ben was appointed as a senior physiotherapist back in 2015. We asked Ben about his role at Nuffield Health and his reasons for pursuing a career in health care.
How long have you been working in healthcare and what was the reason you got into it?
I have been working in healthcare for over a decade, first starting as a theatre porter! My interest in sports injuries led me to pursue a BSc in Physiotherapy in 2009, aiming to help people recover and improve their physical well-being. Following my studies, I returned to Nuffield Health, working at both the Woking hospital and the West Byfleet gym.
What do you love about working for Nuffield Health?
I love Nuffield Health's commitment to excellent patient care, career development, and the supportive environment. The team is brilliant, and the strong consultant relationships enhance our care quality. Nuffield Health also supported my professional growth, including my MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
Have you completed any courses or qualifications whilst working for the hospital?
Yes, I have completed my MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine, acupuncture training, Levels 1 and 2 Pilates mat work, and various day courses on gait analysis, persistent pain, foot and ankle study, and ACL rehabilitation.
What does your role involve?
As the Physiotherapy Manager for Woking and Guildford Hospital and Guildford Fitness & Wellbeing Centre, I oversee patient journeys in inpatient and outpatient settings, develop our department, ensure commercial success, and improve patient outcomes.
