It starts with a positive outlook
Sophie’s passion for nursing began in her gap year as a hospital volunteer in Africa. When she returned home, she started a placement as a student nurse at Nuffield Health in North Staffordshire. From the very first day, she was hooked.
“I absolutely loved it there. It was my favourite placement. I loved the team. I love the way it worked at Nuffield Health so I applied for a job. It was the best thing I did.
Working within a multidisciplinary team and dealing with the runnings of the hospital, you learn so much. We have such a good team on the ward. We all get on really, really well. Everyone's very positive. Everyone has such a good work ethic. We're a really close-knit team and everyone enjoys working together.”
The supportive team culture has helped Sophie make leaps and bounds in her career too. She credits the team for helping her secure her recent promotion.
“I’m really proud to have been promoted to Ward Sister within three years of being qualified. That’s pretty unique. I’m enjoying the leadership and management skills I’m learning now. Everyone's been so supportive and motivated me towards getting this post. From when I was a student, to signing me up as a nurse. They’ve helped me become what I am today.”
And what makes working at Nuffield Health so special? Sophie says:
“I would tell people that it's a really interesting place to work, especially on the ward. We get such a variety of patients. It’s obviously less busy than the NHS so that gives us more time for our patients, which is really what you want to be doing.
I just think it's a really good work environment as well. It’s so positive. I feel like if everyone is positive, even when times are tough, you can get through it together.”
